Description

Bike Type - eBike (electric bike), Distance 28km, riding time 3-4 hours, total duration 6 hours Disembark your cruise ship and discover the Remutaka Ranges' rich rail history & natural beauty on an eBike (electric bike). The flagship daytrip of the Remutaka Cycle Trail, this shore excursion is suitable for riders of all levels, and can be lengthened or shortened to suit you. 18-35km of moderate riding. We meet you directly at Port at 9.15am and shuttle you up to Kaitoke (for a 28km easy/moderate ride). We'll set you up on your eBikes and give you a briefing, then you'll start your adventure with a very gradual incline through native bush. Pass through tunnels (headlights provided!) and over bridges, while checking out information boards detailing the enormous task of constructing the old fell railway system. Reach the summit - a large grassy plateau perfect for a picnic or cold drink - then enjoy a fun (but easily controllable!) descent to Cross Creek in the Wairarapa, surrounded by some of NZ's most scenic farmland. Meet the shuttle at Cross Creek, or continue biking 10km north to Featherston and The Fell Locomotive Museum, and we'll pick you up along the way before driving you back to your ship. Arrival time back at Port is approx. 3.45-4.00pm. Please check that your sailing times allow for these timings, we will not be held responsible if you miss your boat! Includes: -9.15am Shuttle from the port in Wellington up to Kaitoke (please do not get on the cruise buses to Wellington City, we will pick you up direct from port in our white van with Wildfinder signage) -Capable and comfortable eBike (electric bike) with helmet and repair kit, customised to your height and riding preferences. Choose from either step-thru or mountain bike style frame. -Packed lunch and water -Maps and information -First Aid kit and GPS tracker in case of emergency -2:15pm Shuttle from Featherston back to the port in Wellington, arriving approx. 3.45-4.00pm
