Directions to Staglands
Relax in the beautiful surroundings of Staglands Wildlife Reserve in the scenic Akatarawa Valley near Upper Hutt.
Wander through the bush and interact with the wildlife including abundant bird life, Clydesdale horses, emus, goats, guinea pigs and rabbits and the ever popular Kune Kune pigs. Staglands is carefully designed with minimal barriers so you can get up close and personal with many of the animals and interact freely with them.
After you have enjoyed a walk, take a break at the cafe for coffee and cake or lunch. Sit inside by the fire during winter or, take a spot on the shady deck in summer with stunning views out over the reserve, then visit the Old Bush Settlement to see what life would have been like for the original pioneers in New Zealand.
If you'd like to find out more about the animals, take a free lunchtime feed tour with one of the knowledgeable rangers or, take a free tractor and trailer ride which runs every weekend, on public holidays and during school holidays.
