Everybody loves a good Italian, and Wellington Italian Restaurants are some of the best in the country. So if you don't mind piling on a few pounds, sample some perfect pasta, pretty pizzas, and heavenly gelato.
Italian Restaurants in Wellington get very good press. There are lots of multi-generation Italians here, so the food on offer is something a bit special. The highest concentration of Italian Restaurants in Wellington can be found at the Kent Terrace end of Courtenay Place, spilling onto Majoribanks Street. Cuba Street also has its fill of pizzerias and pasta houses - some of the best are at the southern end, near Vivian Street. Newtown has a couple of interesting Trattoria, while for the best views (at a price), head to Lambton Quay. Thorndon (where the Wellington Parliament is situated), has some nice Italian restaurants, around Mulgrave and Pipitea Streets. You really will be spoiled for choice, but it's worth strolling the back streets to find the smaller, more personal Trattoria, which are often cheaper, and infinitely more friendly.
