In Italian, Ombra means shadow, but can also refer to a small glass of wine typically drunk in the afternoon. In Venice, people would drink these glasses at a bacari - a backstreet bar, and now visitors to Wellington can experience the atmosphere at the Ombra bacari in Cuba Street.
The restaurant serves rustic, simple, and great tasting food including pizza and pasta, accompanied by local wines and craft beers.
Bookings are taken for lunchtimes when Ombra's staff appreciate that guests may be in a hurry, but in the evenings the emphasis is on lingering and relaxing over drinks and a meal and bookings are not taken.
