Description
Join us for a full-day tour to Waiorua Bay, Kapiti Island, where you can experience a critically important predator-free nature reserve and enjoy our famous whānau (family) hospitality. Your adventure begins with a shuttle ride from Wellington to Paraparaumu Beach, where you'll enjoy a light breakfast and coffee at a local café before taking the ferry to Kapiti Island.
On the island, an experienced local guide will walk with you, sharing the rich human and ecological stories of Kapiti. Learn about the arrival of the first Māori, the eradication of the last rat, and the ongoing conservation efforts. Enjoy a delicious cooked lunch at the Lodge, surrounded by one of New Zealand's most diverse nature reserves. Expect to see some of our most beautiful and endangered birds up close.
Please note that the coastal walk is generally closed between 1 October and 31 March due to nesting seabirds. You'll have around 5.5 hours on the island before your shuttle transfer back to Wellington City, arriving by approximately 4:30 pm.
