Description
The tour starts with a shuttle from Wellington to Paraparaumu Beach, where you'll have a light breakfast and coffee at a local café before boarding the ferry to Kapiti Island.
An experienced local guide leads a walk sharing Kapiti’s human history and ecological importance. Learn about the first Māori arrivals, the eradication of the last rat, and ongoing conservation efforts. Lunch is served at the Lodge, set within one of New Zealand's most diverse nature reserves, and you may see endangered bird species up close.
Note that the coastal walk closes from 1 October to 31 March due to nesting seabirds. You will have approximately 5.5 hours on the island before returning to Wellington by shuttle, arriving around 4:30 pm.
