Olivo
Located in picturesque Martinborough, Olivo is the oldest commercial olive grove in the Wairarapa and produces artisan olive oils.Be sure to try the infused olive oils which pair oil with an exciting range of flavours
Originally planted in 1991, Olivo was purchased by current owners Helen and John Meehan in 2003 when it was extended to 1200 trees with a variety of cultivars.
Today the business produces a range of award-winning artisan olive oils designed to pair with the other stunning produce that comes from the Martinborough area as well as enhance home-cooked dishes around New Zealand. The business was one of the first to offer infused oils and is now well-known for its exciting and innovative flavour combinations including porcini, fennel and cumin as well as lemon infused oil which pairs delightfully with fish dishes and ice cream.
The grove and tasting room are also open for tours. During the tour visitors can wander through the olive groves and learn more about the different varieties before learning how to taste olive oil and some tips on how best to use the oils in cooking. Tours last around an hour and cost $15 per person.
