Since 1996, Astoria has been a bustling cafe in the heart of Wellington's shopping district. Even with plenty of seating (150-100 inside and 50 outdoors), the cafe retains a quaint, Old World charm. Drawing on the cafe culture of Europe, Astoria is a great place to enjoy a cup of gourmet coffee and a pastry with a friend or just a newspaper.
Naturally, coffee is taken seriously at Astoria and the baristas make between 900 and 1200 cups every day. Beans are sourced from Columbia, Ethiopia, Guatemala and Brazil and are roasted on site in a 1950s gas-fired roaster.
There is an array of tasty cabinet food that is great for a mid-morning or afternoon snack. Astoria also offers hot meals for breakfast, lunch and evening meals. Weekend brunch is especially popular among Wellingtonians.
