Directions to The Thistle Inn
Historic tavern in Thorndon, minutes from Westpac Stadium. Original features, plus gastropub dining, monthly poetry & quiz nights, function room and boutique conference facilities.
The Thistle Inn is New Zealand's oldest surviving tavern dating back to 1840. Enjoy a cold beer or a local vintage in the beautifully polished interior which effortlessly blends the charm of traditional wooden floors and sash windows with a contemporary freshness.
The Thistle's chef offers both gourmet dining and classic platter fare in the informal dining room, and if it's your birthday, you can even dine for free. Pop down for the monthly quiz night, or come along to Poets Corner, and discover why luminaries such as Katharine Mansfield used to love coming here, too.
Upstairs, there are bespoke conference facilities available for up to 30 people, with full catering optional. If you're after somewhere to hold that special event, you can privately hire the Main Bar, Conservatory Courtyard, the Private Dining Room, or any of the conference rooms. Make the most of the warm Wellington climate and enjoy your own marquee for a summer cocktail party.
The Inn's proximity to the Westpac Stadium makes it the ideal stop-off for pre and post-match celebrations, guaranteeing atmosphere, history, tradition and a very warm welcome. For a slice of famous Wellington hospitality, The Thistle Inn is about as authentic as it gets.
