Directions to Oriental Bay
Oriental Bay is one of Wellington's prime locations with a sandy beach and great restaurants just minutes from the city centre.
The bay's Oriental Parade stretches from the central business district to Point Jerningham and is popular spot with locals on a sunny weekend afternoon. The area is home to many of Wellington's most luxurious properties with a mix of old character houses and modern luxury apartments.
Children will enjoy building a sand castle on the sandy beach, and the sea is safe for swimming when the weather is warm enough.
The Carter Fountain is an interesting photo opportunity, located offshore in the bay and based on a fountain in Geneva seen by its benefactor Hugh Carter, after whom the fountain is named.
A host of places to eat from some of the city's most acclaimed restaurants to laid-back cafes along the parade ensure there will be something to cater for every taste, with a focus on freshly caught seafood.
