Best Bars in Porirua

Local Recommendations from our My Guide Wellington team

You won't struggle for Bars in Wellington. A cosmopolitan city, you can chill out anywhere, from a swanky Waterfront cocktail palace, to a friendly, neighbourhood pub. Prices vary, even from street to street, so let your instinct do the talking.

Wellington Bars are easily accessible because everything's walkable. Cuba Street is the obvious draw. It's absolutely rocking at nights, with both bars and clubs. The swankier establishments are found towards Courtenay Place (always open late) and the Waterfront. The southern end of Cuba Street has more 'local type' bars, or those geared towards students and others on a budget.

The Waterfront and Lambton Quay have some great cocktail bars, and obviously those with views will add a few cents onto the cost of a 'Cosmopolitan'. Most hotels have bars open to non-residents but, again, these tend to cost more. If you want to get out of the CBD, head for Newtown. Riddiford Street has a good bar scene, although they won't stay open as late as those in the CBD. Oriental Bay has a smattering of resort-style bars, with lovely waterside locations, and Miramar is becoming a hip place to hang out, around the Roxy Cinema on Park Road.
