The powerhouse has been growing since its grass-roots way back in 1988, when it first formed as a free weights lifting site in the corner of a demolition yard.
Today it occupies more than 4000 square feet on Taranaki Street and is filled with non-electronic equipment such as bench presses, dumbbells, kettlebells, ropes, punch bags and other free weight machinery.
The Power House is known for its focus on bodybuilding, core strength, and lack of emphasis on cardiovascular exercise or endurance training, while the in-house competition team has a threefold focus on Olympic weightlifting, power lifting and Strongman.
