Wellington is also a great spot for diving with operators offering the chance to dive off Kapiti Island Nature Reserve and the beautfiul coastline. Wellington fishing runs the gamut from sedate, river trips, to exciting, ocean game fishing. There are organised trips to take you out into the Cook Strait and Tasman Sea. Fish for yellow fin tuna, marlin, even swordfish. There are half day, full day and multi day trips available to make the most of your time. Most excursions also include equipment, lunch and sometimes a BBQ so you can cook what you catch.
There are a number of charter companies dotted about the harbourside. Further afield, Rongotai has some excellent operators going out into Lyall Bay and beyond. The Hutt Valley has some great river fishing, and first timers will enjoy the tranquillity of a day's fishing out in Evans Bay and Kilbirnie.
