DescriptionEmbark on a full-day tour to walk in the footsteps of the cast and crew of ‘The Lord of the Rings’ trilogy. After pick-up from one of the central pick-up locations, set off towards the natural beauty of the Hutt Valley. Leave the city behind and acquaint yourself with your fellow travelers. Visit Dry Creek Quarry where the sets of Helms Deep and Minas Tirith were constructed. Go for a walk through Harcourt Park and visit the Hutt River to see where Aragorn was washed ashore after his battle with Sharku and the Warg riders. Pause at the Kaitoke Regional Park, home to the Elves of Rivendell in the movies before enjoying a relaxing picnic lunch and Rivendell and later crossing a swing bridge for a short nature walk. Traveling back through the city center, your guide will point out where the red carpet for two world premieres ran down to the Embassy Theater. After viewing movie clips, drive to the top of Mount Victoria, taking a walk through the “Hobbiton woods” to see where filming began for several famous ‘The Lord of the Rings’ scenes. Travel to the suburb of Miramar, home to New Zealand’s movie industry to discover hidden production studios and learn about what happens inside. Learn the latest news from “Wellywood” as you continue onward to special effects company Weta Workshop and their Weta Cave. At the Weta Cave retail shop and museum, you will have the chance to pose for pictures with the life-sized trolls, William, Tom, and Bert. You can do some souvenir shopping or simply admire their collection of movie props. There is also time to take the optional Weta Cave Workshop Tour (at an additional cost). After enjoying your time in Miramar, you will return to the city by way of the scenic Oriental Bay.
