Description
This 17-day journey starts in Wellington, New Zealand’s bustling capital city, in the North Island. From here, we board a ferry and travel across the Cook Strait into the incredibly scenic Marlborough Sounds, before disembarking at Picton on the South Island.
After spending time in the ‘Sounds’ and at rustic Cable Bay, we head northwest to the tiny hamlet of Marahau for a few days. Marahau is the gateway to one of the South Island’s true jewels in the crown, Abel Tasman National Park. Hike, swim, sail, or sunbathe through this gorgeous marine sanctuary that you’ll never forget.
Our tour then proceeds over the imposing Takaka Hill to Golden Bay, and the phenomenal beauty of Farewell Spit, Wharariki Beach, and Pupu Springs. Heading southwest to the rugged West Coast, we explore fantastic rock formations at Punakaiki, the Southern Hemisphere’s largest natural limestone arches in remote Kahurangi National Park, an award-winning campground at Mokihinui, and wild, lonely beaches and serene river walks all along the stunning Westland coastline.
Next, we pass through the world-famous Arthurs Pass National Park. This unmissable section of our tour is a passenger favourite, with multiple stops included along the way for photographs.
We finish our tour in quaint Akaroa, a small harbour town near Christchurch that is bursting with French history, character and ambience.
