Best Shopping in Wellington

Local Recommendations from our My Guide Wellington team

Wellington Shopping offers the full range of markets, designer boutiques, local arts and crafts, and some impressive shopping malls. Indulge in top of the range fashions, or seek out that individual souvenir unique to this expanding city.

Shopping in Wellington is one of the major reasons people come here. You can buy a slice of anything here, from a variety of outlets. Markets are everywhere, selling everything from local delicacies, fresh produce, meat and fish, to vintage apparel, local art, antiques and bric-a-brac.  Retail stores range from all the high street favourites, to high end designer boutiques and independent, home-grown names. Lambton Quay's 'Golden Mile' is an obvious place to spend a day browsing. Alternatively head to the markets at Harbourside, Hill Street and Wellington Underground Market.

Te Papa Museum is great for gifts and unique souvenirs, and you can go off the beaten track around the side streets of Willis, Featherston and Victoria Streets, to find some real treasure troves. There are some great malls at Lambton Square, Cuba Street and Courtney Central, but because Wellington is so walkable, just go for a stroll, and you'll end up finding what you're looking for in no time.
