Best Asian Restaurants in Te Aro

Local Recommendations from our My Guide Wellington team

Asian Restaurants in Wellington are cheap and plentiful. Whether it's a good Chinese, authentic Thai, even Mongolian, there's a cuisine to suit all corners of the continent. Mix street food with top end restaurants, to get the full flavour.

Wellington Asian Restaurants are centred mainly around the CBD. The so-called 'Restaurant Row' in Courtenay Place and the environs, offers dozens of different cuisines. South East Asian (Thai, Malay, Chinese), Mongolian (Cuba Street) and Turkish abound here. For decent Chinese, head to Te Aro, around Taranaki/Vivian Streets, and all the roads up to Courtenay Place. Tory Street, in particular, is worth a stroll, with several very good Asian eateries along here. You can always get good grub by the Waterfront, but it'll be pricier. For convenience, head to Willis Street and Lambton Quay, which is central to everything. The roads around Te Papa contain a few respected Japanese restaurants, so all sushi lovers should head here.
