Newtown Festival, Aotearoa’s largest annual street fair and free music festival is back for 2023! On Sunday the 5th of March, we will reclaim the streets to share a tremendous assemblage of culture, creativity and community spirit with you and your whānau. 420 stalls come from near and far, selling all sorts of fabulous food, arts & crafts, fashion and treasures.
Featuring 16 stages and over 180 acts, the premier stages Tangata Whenua Stage (hospital end of Riddiford Street) and the South Stage (zoo end of Riddiford Street) bookend the festival bringing you the likes of hugely talented AJA, Julia Deans, old favourites The Warratahs, and so many more to discover throughout the heart of Newtown. We’re excited to add the Pasifika Stage this year in Mercy Park next to St Anne’s.
Offering plenty of fun for all ages, Newtown Festival’s activity zones feature a balance bike course for littlies, a mini ferris wheel and merry-go-round, street tag games, electric bikes and scooters to try and much, much more. After festivities, local venues will be keeping the party going into the evening.
With the main street closed to traffic from 5am to 9pm, pedestrians reclaim the streets for a day of celebration. We recommend you walk, bike, bus, or scooter to Newtown Festival as parking will be very limited. Bicycle and scooter parking will be available at Newtown School and extra buses will be running a diverted route around the outside of the Festival.
